CQI In Home Visiting

The goal of CQI with Early Impact Virginia (EIV) in coordination with the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is to improve outcomes of home visiting programs by building capacity of local partners through:

  • Establishing a culture of CQI

  • Building CQI infrastructure

  • Applying CQI methods to daily practice

What is CQI?

Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) is a deliberate, defined process that relies on teamwork to improve services, processes, workforce well-being, and increase positive outcomes for families. CQI is an ongoing cycle of collecting data and then testing, implementing, learning from and revising solutions. Simply put this cyclical, data-driven process helps teams “get better at getting better.”

CQI Learning Community

Virginia programs choose whether to participate in a topical CQI Learning Community or take a deeper dive into CQI by joining the National Practicum or HV CoIIN opportunity.

Joy in Work Learning Community

The Joy in Work Learning Community involved 21 programs who focused on improving staff well-being. During the 9-month project, teams discussed what matters most to them and what stands in the way. Teams tested out new strategies and worked to foster a culture of wellness within their organizations.

Our CQI Impact

What CQI through Early Impact Virginia has accomplished so far…

  • Breastfeeding: Programs across the state increased the initiation and duration of breastfeeding by 20% among participating mothers.

  • Family Engagement: Programs tested and learned new ways to engage families during the pandemic

CQI has impacted me and the work I do by helping me to understand the connection between data and success with our program. It has also provided me with the space and opportunity to approach challenges with a solution and team focused attitude. I always know if there are areas for improvement or new things my program wants to try, we can use CQI as a tool to guide and support us.
